Tales from Grandma's House, Part I

Last weekend we flew the girls to Virginia Beach to spend a few days at what they refer to as "grandma's house" (grandpa likes to point out that he lives there too). Weather was great and allowed for plenty of beach and pool time.

At the beach on Monday, the wind was strong and surf was up. The girls weren't too sure what to think of the water, but we eventually got them to sit in the wet sand and build sandcastles. They were irate when the water came in and wiped away their work, something they have been talking about for days since.

Perhaps the greatest trauma of the weekend came when grandpa had the nerve to climb into their wading pool in the backyard. They were skeptical but calm at first, until he dumped a pail of water over his head. Total meltdown ensued. Things only got worse the next day when grandpa simply walked through the kiddie pool on the way to the big pool. They both dove to the sides like it was on fire, and the screaming reached levels not heard since infancy.

When not traumatized by grandpa's brief pool invasion, they repeatedly asked dad to "make a big splash" off the diving board. I was sore by the end of the weekend from so much cannonball impact! Their own time in the "big pool" was limited, but they did enjoy floating with mom and dad's assistance, followed by popcorn on the deck.
