Why not to take hungry kids to the grocery store

After picking the girls up from preschool yesterday - a time when they're always hungry - I decided to stop by the grocery store on the way home. This made sense in theory, since we were out of milk and bread and mom was out at book club for the night. Might as well take advantage of having the girls on the road.

This idea quickly deteriorated into a chorus of, "I want apples, I want grapes, I want strawberries!" It escalated when I put milk in the cart and tried to explain why they couldn't have any at that moment. So they got to eat grapes during our trip through the aisles, undoubtedly changing the chargable weight of what I originally picked up versus what I bought.

The solo dad evening ended around 8 when I tried to let them color while I cleaned the kitchen. Within 45 seconds Etta stole Marie's pink marker and mutual screaming ensued. They were both in bed and asleep fifteen minutes later.
